"Model me like one of your french girls."
OKAY. This Sunday, April 5th, 2015 at 2:00 PM I, Darth Martyr, shall be hosting an event where I will teach any fellow lad of -[DE]- the pleasantry of knowing how to use 3D Modeling programs to make content for Jedi Knight Jedi Academy. I will be using Skype to achieve this goal. If any of you do not yet have a Skype account, of course I'd recommend getting one.
This will most likely be a spread out course, on Sunday I want to cover the basics of the software and hopefully get you guys rolling with basic objects and modifying their structure. There will probably be three tests within this course and I haven't quite decided what I want them to be, but I already have some ideas. Making your own saber will most likely be one of them. The programs below are the ones we will use in the course:
Autodesk 3ds Max 8 or higher

Photoshop CS3 or higher

Blender (latest version)

Ravensoft's SDK for JKA/JK2
Now comes the part where you ask "How the hell am I supposed to acquire this software? Some of it is highly expensive!"
Luckily for you, there are alternatives. I will list the alternative free versions in the same order as above to it's equivalent.
Gmax - Basically a free 3ds Max

Gimp - GNU Image Manipulation Program AKA Free Photoshop

Blender - As much as I dislike Blender's layout and UI, it has its benefits

Ravensoft's SDK - Free of charge as-is
I'll be covering the basics on shapes and manipulating them in our first lesson so don't get too excited yet, let's just get your feet wet with it first. In the meantime, try to think of what you might want to design for Jedi Academy whether it be map objects, sabers, player models, vehicles, pickups, uncivilized weapons, etc.
Good Hunting out there!
